Red face Power Rear Slider conversion

Good Morning. I'm new to this forum and looking forward to sharing and receiving lots of information.

My 1st issue is trying to replace my stationery rear window with a power slider on my 2013 F150 Super Cab. So far, I'm getting conflicting information. I have large professional glass installers such as Reliable Auto Glass stating it can't be done because of the frame to other after market resellers say yes and no. I would like to this myself as I have most other things so not afraid to re-work anything. The internet isn't very specific so I don't know if they're selling as a direct replacement for an OEM existing slider or for conversion.

Here are my most important questions.
Can it definitely be done without frame modification?
When you by a kit, do you generally get the door panel bezel and switch or is that an OEM order item?
Are the harness connectors still there despite it wasn't an original OEM installed option?

Lesser important questions.
My current driver door bezel has power windows and locks. Is there still room to modify for a switch if it's not OEM. I know this would require a Dremel and steady hand Red face
Does anyone know of a reasonable place to buy one?
I noticed some OEM bezels also have a switch on the passenger side. Is the switch on that side required if a driver side OEM switch is used in the harness? I know in some electrical circuits, switches are wired serially instead of in parallel as in 3way operation.

I appreciate pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks,
Frank

I've had a similar question

Frank, about the fit of a power slider vs stationary glass. Only thing, I want to go from power slider to stationary glass . . will it fit?
The OEM slider has an external bezel/trim around the glass that the plain glass does not. Seems the plain glass is basically glued to the body hole I too have asked the local glass installer and was given BS info(just say I don't know).
It doesn't make sense that the body hole would be different, for production reasons.

Stationery vs Slider

I agree. People should learn "I don't know" is an acceptable answer instead of the wrong info or BS. Thanks for confirming that it fits, the electrical stuff I can figure out. Knowing that the harness connectors are there will just make the install easier. Perhaps I'll get a response from someone who knows about that part before I start the installation. If not, I'll report progress and post pictures myself.

Thanks again,
Frank

I don't know if your '13 has the map light mini console at the rear view mirror mount, if so you might check there for slider control connections.
Connector #C912(12 wire) is listed for "overhead console switch assembly", slider switch location on the '14(out of the Ford wiring diagram book).
From the same book connector #C3368(2 wire)- rear window defrost grid, #C3145(2 wire)-power sliding window motor (both at back of cab, under window)

I imagine your '13 would be similarly wired.

If you are going OEM Ford glass, be aware there were 3 tint levels. Clear glass, light green tint, and privacy tint(dark smoke).

just a little 411, hope it helps some

I never thought to look at that console. I just saw the door bezel with other power window controls and thought that was where the switch mounted. I believe on one of the exploded OEM views I saw online shows that bezel with the slider icon. I will check.

Thanks for the tint info as well.

35 years in glass installation and I have never known a truck by any manufacturer that had a different body opening for a slider as opposed to a solid glass. The glass in the Fords actually bolts to the cab. You remove the rear seat and interior trim around the glass and you will see the nuts around the perimeter of the window. With the new window you apply a roll of what is referred to as 'foam core butyl" tape. This is exactly what it is, a piece of foam rubber coated with butyl. This seals the glass frame to the body and the bolts hold it to the body. If you buy a Carlite (OE) brand glass from a Ford dealer or independent glass shop it comes complete with glass and motor. You would then have to add a power circuit to it and mount a switch somewhere in the cab to operate it. The factory switch is in the overhead console and there is no way I have ever seen the you could add this capability to the door switch.
There is a company called CRLaurence out of California that makes sliders for the aftermarket. The sell complete kits including the wiring and a switch, I installed one in a late 90s F150 some years back. This is simplified because everything you need is right there in the box but I personally do not like the look of the CRL sliders. The fit and finish isn't what the OE is.
As far as the harness already being in place, I can't say but I would suggest start at the overhead console. Remove it and see if there is an unused plug there. If so remove the rear seat and see if there is a plug on the back cab wall. Should be just to the passenger side of center. If you find both plugs test for continuity between the two. If you have that you may get lucky and simply add a fuse in the fuse box. Not sure how one would get power if the circuit was there but not powered.
I had a customer try this on a 2019 Silverado but there was no circuit and if you purchased the OE harness it run pretty much through everything in the cab. That would have been a nightmare on that vehicle. I installed the glass and he took care of the wiring.
Hope this helps.

I remember when you could use a piece of rope to install a rear window, sliding or solid...I miss those days

If you call around to dealers and glass shops you should be able to get a power slider with a non functioning defrost for cheap. A coworker is going to try and put the one out of my truck in his 06 stx. It should bolt right in but he's suspecting he will have to wire it up as the STX is a base model truck. Mine was replaced under extended warranty due to the defrost being inoperative. They did not call for the part back so now it's marked to be scrapped.

I have never had a roped in style rear window leak...can't say the same for these newer models

My 1976 F250 I switched out from a fixed window to a slider and then several years later put the fixed glass back in because I busted up the slider still does not leak and I used the same rubber for all the changes
