Just got a ‘58 f100 because my ‘59 got totaled a few weeks ago. But my ‘58 has a ‘59 grille on it. I’ve seen quite a few with this combo. Was it something they did later in ‘58 or was it just swapped onto it?
Specific year grilles were never a running change. They were changed with the model year.If your 58 has a 59 grille on it, it was done by or for a previous owner. Sometimes it was because someone preferred a particular style, other times it could be a replacement due to damage and that's what was available at the time. Either way, it didn't come from Ford so equipped.
When I restored the body on my '58 truck (late 70's / early 80's), 1958 grilles were very hard to find. My truck currently has a '59 grille because that was all I could locate at the time. Later I found a '58 chrome grille which may have been one of the very last N.O.S. around. It's in storage at the moment until I find a clean pair of headlight bezels.
