While unusual I believe it's quite doable.
In contrast 10-12 years ago a local (loco) fellow was trying to sell a fifth wheel (online) that he'd boxed in/ modified so it could attach to a bumper. I argued with him that placing all that original weight - plus his modifications weight - was way too much for a bumper. Of course he disagreed. I never found out where things went with it.

@Army RET you are exactly right. Bumper pull to gooseneck - OK. Fifth wheel to bumper pull - NOT OK.
@Eaglescout94 that is a cool idea and it requires not permanent mods to the trailer.
