I used a set of the allen head bolts from Hi-lo. Junk!
I did pick up a good set of Craftsman Crow Foot wrenches though. I think that wil get in there better than an open end wrench. Or a socket for that matter.

Doesn't it irk you that we need to discuss our temperature guages and their readings by which letter it is. Umm it's between the N and the L. If only auto manufacturers would put guages with numbers in our vehicles, but we've been wanting that since we changed from Roman numerals (which were actually letters)???
On the topic of thermostats, everyone is mentioning about their 195 degree stats. I replaced mine on Saturday and it is stamped 192 (original Ford). Most literature stats 195, just goes to show. Never assume anything or believe everything you read. Take it apart and get the correct number from the part whether it's a temp degree or manufacturers p/n.

My 65 that I just bought has numbers on the guage face. But it always reads around 210 so I am going to be looking at it soon. I need to find out what ford put in the 68 Mustangs. That's really what I know. Is the old mustangs. I set the timing on this truck the other day (65) and set it dead on 10 degrees BTDC. ANd it runs like a charm. The previous owner had it set a around or over 15! I couldn't believe it, unless it was for the high altitudes.

Gentlemen: Yes your right, the 5ltr. engine likes to be run with a hot thermostat, highly suggest the 195. As well you should not be alarmed at the amount of advance with your distributor as it will easyily take 14-15 degrees without predetonation, all truck 302 heads are drilled for a anti-knock sensor, which is wired to the ECM. I have been running my 302 in a 86 Gran Marquis at 14 degrees with no knock (towing @5000k) and achive @ 19mpg. loaded and about 22-23mpg. empty (no trailer)Believe it or not, these engines also are brand fussy when it comes to spark plugs, I have had the best luck with Autolite platinums, best price here was at Wal-Mart.I am currently waiting to try a freshly built 302HO B303 roller cam, Mildly ported and polished heads, matched gaskets etc.I will let you know how well it does at the pumps and in tow. ->
