Hello, I have been working on my 52 f3 for 5 or 6 years, and I hope to have it done by the end of 2020. (Optimist) I am planning for my next adventure. I have accumulated about half of the treasure re'qd. For a 1950 f1. The problem is, with these trucks, i'm 6'4 and 250lbs. I find that my shoulders and chest have migrated south. Like some of you, my new knee, bad hip, bad back, and stiff neck prevent me from jumping in like i'm a duke of hazzard. I am the proverbial 10 lbs. In the 5 lb. Bag. My question is, do the 57-60 ford's have more cab room from front to back? I ask here because i'm sure some of you have owned them or worked on them in the past. I did'not see much difference in 53-56 cabs.. thanks, larry

The 53-56 cabs are wider than the 48-52 cabs. I think there is more room front to back, but am not positive. I have a book upstairs with dimensions of the cab I can look at and take a pic of unless someone beats me to it.
I think each generation truck got a little bigger and roomier. Things like thinner seats, power steering and smaller diameter steering wheels make the same space seem larger, too, so dimensions on paper may not be a totally accurate comparison. I would recommend searching local want ads or craigslist and find a 'fridge' (slang for a 57-60 truck because of its boxy styling) for sale and see how you feel in it. There's nothing quite the same as a 'seat of the pants' fitting.
If that doesn't work, there's always the option of making a custom extended cab truck.
bigwin, wish I was as limber as that good ol'boy! Lol
abe, thanks for the dimensions, i'll compare.
merc, that's a good idea, to find one for sale and try it. For the extended cab I better start collecting bulk quantity of evercoat!
as always fellas, thanks for your input. Larry
This is what I did to my 1950 F2 to get a bit more room:
I moved the gas tank to the rear of the vehicle and then I had an upholstery shop make the seat back thinner, I also installed a Flaming River tilt steering column. I used a 2" drop between the column and the dash but if you use a 14" steering wheel similar to the banjo wheel that I used you could use a 1" drop to give you a little more knee room.
This column is mated to an '84 Toyota 4x4 power steering box through 2 U-joints. The Flaming River people were most helpful in getting me the right parts. Everything fit.
Thanks for the info and pics, pete. I like the way you thinned the back of the seat. I will have to remember that if I go ahead with the 50 in the future. I have moved the tank, 14" wheel & lokar column. I put in bucket seats from pick and pull, look brand new, and 28 bucks apiece. For me that was a lot cheaper than redoing the bench seat, but I don't know if it gained me any room or not. My big concern is getting my size 15 from gas petal to brake petal in a hurry. Guess i'll stay on country roads! Lol. Thanks again larry
