Ive heard good things about the straight 6 (300ci) i wanna buy a vechile that has the straight six in it, the transmission is a 5 speed and the water pump has been replaced recently.
Vechile is a 1994 F150 shortbox regular cab
The motor is at 121,000 miles (212,000km)
how much life does this motor have left in it. (with regular oil changes and proper maintanence?)
These engines can run up to and well over 200k without any issues. Even the ones that are beat and never maintained make a good solid 150k. They are unbeatably tough.
sounds like a nice truck.... post pics of it to your gallery so we can check it out.
Just getting broke in if the previous owner took care of it It wouldn't be unreasonable to double that if you kept it up well. Change the oil fairly often. Sure, you may have minor problems along the way, but I bet that thing is still running when it hits 200k. Might smoke a tad at that point if the rings, valve guides, seals start to go south. But thats 60-80k from now. Heck, change the oil every 3k, and keep it running well, and you might be surprised. No timing chain to break is one help. I like the gear. I think that is one reason why they go so long without having to tear into them. They wear gradually, the nylon the quickest, but you usually don't have to worry about one coming unglued on the spot, like a chain can. You'll have months of advance warning. MK
Hey NM5K I sheered off the timing gear in mine at 210K, otherwise that's the most major internal problem so far other then a motor mount, new carb, few gaskets, and I beat the crap out of this truck and it still takes it at 220K. Doesn't take any oil either, it's startin to leak out the back pan gasket but taht don't count. Yeah mines an 86 and the gaskets are just startin to fall apart and yours is a 94. I say buy it if the price is right.
124k on mine. 95' f150, 5 speed. towes 3000# every day. Has been a great truck, changed a few gaskets but thats all to the motor. The external parts ( starter, alt. ...) go before the motor will. Great truck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mine has 266 000 on it now with no major work at all passed the e test two years ago with the same amount of km's on it with flying colours its been parked in my garage since then thou lol
yeah right now mine is at 340k ish
still running strong, im pretty rough on her too. shifting doesnt occur til quite high rpms.
leaks a lil oil and runs a lil hot but other than that shes good.
yeah I got mine up 385,000 then ended up putting a Jasper engine in it when the oil leaks added up and to repair was going to cost 1/2 teh price of going new. Obviously I went new, now the engine has a 3 year warrenty. Now how funny is that to tell people my truck is about to push 400,000 miles and still under warrenty. Love to give the love for the FORDS!
the ford ZF tranny is great, but watch out for the M5od ( door sticker code "M") M5od is a mazda transmission and can be pretty troublesome, but if you find one with a ZF tranny youve struck pay dirt
My 87 has got 265 k on it and is still running well. The only things that have been an issue have been starter motors which for some reason seem to wear out quicker than would be expected. That and I have to change my throttle position sensor because I get some overreving when shifting gears. Just a quick point, If you buy the truck go out and get a code reader they are invaluable for trouble shooting and will save you a lot of headaches for about 25 bucks. Also I don't know if Ford has fixed the firewall problem for 94 but get someone in the truck to depress the clutch pedal and watch the firewall to see if it flexes. If it does, check for cracks as this has been a real problem for earlier Fords. BTW the fix is cheap it's a couple of brackets depending if you've got a cracked firewall or not from Ford that you can install yourself. Anyway enjoy the truck and I'm sure you'll let us know how the truck is working.
