1986 C700 vin decode

Hi.

1. Thanks in advance NumberDummy. Its very generous of you to help everyone out with your resources & knowledge

2. curious which engine/transmission/rear end this tag (pic) indicates.

3. I've never had a manual transmission before that wasn't instrumented by a tachometer. I've found an instrument cluster for sale from a 1978 with a tach, any idea if I could swap it to get a tach?

4. What automatic transmissions were offered in 1986 year behind a gas engine?

Many Thanks.

Welcome to FTE! Rather than change the cluster, just add an aftermarket tach. Your engine is governed anyway, and with a 370 and 28000 GVWR, you'll probably be up against the governor most of the time anyway....

Do you own this already? How is it configured?

Yes, I do own it. It's configured with an older flatbed with a 30,000 pound ramsey pto winch. It's had ittle use, around 20k miles. still has paint on the chassis.

I did end up buying the other cluster before i saw your response. Your advice was good. It was not productive as the earlier 1975 cluster used a mechanical tach so wouldn't make sense use.

What you say about being governed makes allot of sense and explains why it never had a tach.
