Problem with 1996 f250

Hello. I have a 96 F250 crew cab with the 7.5 L motor. Runs great lots of power But randomly it. Dies completely shuts off and will take about 15-20 minutes to restart. It will turn over but won't fire. I have sprayed carburetor spray in and it will not fire. So I'm assuming it's electrical. Does anybody have any suggestions?

check for codes after it is at operating temp, when it dies, and you try to re-start do you hear the fuel pump run for 2-3 seconds, old days was sign coil going bad, gets hot, cools off fires up

yours should be 3 digit codes

My guess would be the PIP in the distributor is bad. You have to remove the distributor and disassemble it to replace the PIP. It's easiest to get a different distributor, but to find a decent one. Most rebuilt distributors are junk. The best bet would probably be try a new aftermarket distributor.

doesnt mean you dont have stored memory codes, here are 2 test procedures, one checks ICM/TFI module, one checks PIP sensor

PIP sensor test(scroll down to TEST #7

As far as testing the ignition components, if the part is not in a dead state it will likely test good. In other words you would have to do the test while the engine is in a won't start condition. Those tests are easier to do if the ignition component is totally dead, not intermittent.
