I have a 2000 F150 with a 5.4 4x2 automatic trans that when I put it in drive or try to shift manually only goes into second gear. reverse works fine. This transmission seems to have some type of shift kit in it as when it was working it shifted pretty firmly into the next gear when it was working. The first mechanic that looked at it said that the OD button was blinking and that meant there were issues but he could not get any codes to come up. After a few months I was driving it and I pulled off the road for a minute leaving the truck running, when I got back in and took off I only had second gear. I have driven it some in the hopes maybe something was plugged and might free up on its own. No such luck so I took it to a local mechanic and he checked it for me and said there were 9 different codes and he thought it may be a solenoid in the trans. Anybody have any thoughts on this ? I know 9 codes but I believe some of that was probably caused by me driving it while it is stuck in second. Thx Dave

 

Only thought I have is knowing the codes might give us a direction.

 

Replace the 1-2 solenoid. Its prone to failure and actually available very cheap.
