I’m having issues starting me 1996 f150, I think it’s not getting fuel to the cylinders or there’s carbon buildup on the injectors, but I’m not sure and I’m wondering if there are any common problems that could lead to it not firing. After it starts it runs really rough for a minute then idles really high (not exactly sure were haven’t installed my tac yet)

You are getting fire or it wouldn't start. You have running problems. Even if your CEL is not on you can have codes that lead you to possible solutions without throwing parts at it. Here is a video on how to do it and you can use a wire or paperclip instead of the jumper he uses. Your codes should be three digits when you are counting flashes. Sandy
Vacuum leaks are just great to find!! If you have access to a smoke machine anyway. Otherwise, like most of us, it's just got to be done the hard way. First step, the obvious, just put you eyes or hands on every tube you see. Just a small line being broken probably wouldn't bother much aside from idle speed so you are looking for something more significant. Do your brakes feel normal? It's not too common but the brake booster could fail letting the system suck a lot of air.
not so much a vacuum issue here but I'd consider looking at the IAC and the egr valve. An old dirty egr can get stuck open. And I've seen IAC fail without any codes, run totally terrible and never get a CEL.
I would think if the IAC is the issue you might have been noticing the idle speed fluctuating or just not being consistent from day to day. You can pull it off and try cleaning it out with some carb cleaner and see if it changes anything. You may be able to see the egr if it's stuck open. Or if you can get your fingers in the baffle see if you can move it. It could just be full of carbon or rust and is stuck.
Hopefully you will find it quick and it will be a cheap fix. While you are poking around at it maybe pull a spark plug or two and see if they are good still. Maybe pop distributor cap and see if the contacts are corroded. Start with the easy stuff, it's usually something stupid that gets overlooked because we always tend to think something more complicated is causing our headaches!! Good luck!
