Power Windows and Door Locks

Hi Newbie here,
I've got a 1997 F-150 XL that has pretty much everything except power windows and door locks.
Does anyone know if 1998 F-150 driver and passenger power door windows and power door locks will fit into a 1997 F-150?

I think they will, the body didn't change between 1997 and 1998.

I am just curious. Would you need GEM programming or just plugging in wires and parts?

Thank you CathedralCub, that’s good to hear.
Hopefully it will be just plug and play.

I believe the "one touch down" circuit is built into the GEM but the normal push button window operation is not.

Sounds quite involved and would require the scavenging of one or more modules as well as the harnesses would it not?
However if the auto down feature on the driver’s side doesn’t work I don’t care as long as I can lower and raise it with the switch.

I have read multiple posts on the level of labor involved in getting the entire wiring harness from the donor vehicle and plugging it in the receiver. Most recommended against it and for separate wiring. I myself opted for separate wiring. It is entirely up to you.

Let me share my story. My 97 is a base model. No pre-existing wires. I added power window (passenger side only), power seats (driver and passenger), power mirrors (driver and passenger), auto dimming mirror with compass, and electric fan with arduino control. No factory wiring for any of these. Each needed only a few wires. But together I have a bundle of wires criss-crossing and needed a center console to hide them. My suggestion is to plan ahead. If you will have multiple power options in the future, you may want to consider getting the factory wiring harness. IOW, had I known I would get these many power options, I would have scavenged the factory wiring harness with all the options. Honestly, I am not sure if anyone would want to buy my vehicle with many undocumented wires.

Yes it can get quite involved!
My last work truck before this 97 F-150 was an 81 GMC bottom line Camper Special; it didn’t even have a dome light.
Previous to that was an 80 GMC Sierra Classic that was loaded from the factory, when I scrapped it I removed the power windows and door locks and separated the pertinent wires from the dash harness and installed everything in the 81.
However the wiring on the 81 GMC was minimal compared to this 97 F-150, so there is a great deal to consider before attempting the arduous process on the 97.
I really miss having the power door locks more so than the power windows, I may just end up buying two new door lock actuators and build my own harness for them.
