Superdave, Congrats on the 460 sounds like it will be a good one
Are all the galley plugs in? HAHAHAHA
No I've not touched the trucks carb yet. I just went thru a break up with my live in girlfriend and tryin to get my stuff stairtened out . What I need to know about my carb is what jets and metering rods are used to make it a 500cfm but they won't tell me. Do you know? I've had it apart a couple of times it is eay to work on. I want to lean it as far as I can without burning a piston.
Yes it has electric choke but I have it disconnected.
Click on carburetors on the left side menu, Then on Edelbrock Performers Series owners manual. Go through that whole section.
Use this site to figure out your needs. It is a little confusing to begin with. But the more you read it the better you understand what makes their carbs tick.
If you need some help just hollar.

Superdave, What is the new 460 in.
Thanks for the carb info I have read it before and your right its confusing but I'll go thru it again and see if I can make more since of it. I think my truck is at the a/f ratio of 6-9 level now and I would like it to be at the 14-17 level after I'm done.
Thanks Wayne
Sorry just getting back with you. The new 460 went into my 82.
The other is having some problems due to a moron for a machinist that I used the first time. So it will set untill I figure out what it needs.
Needless to say I did some extensive homework to find a competent machinist this time. Did not rely on a local NAPA store machinist this time. He was about 60 miles away, but , oh well. He is ASE certified and a member in good standing with the Sprint Car Engine builders association and another enigne builders associaton.
I will dig out my Edelbrock manual and see if I can steer you in a leaner direction.
Superdave, Well I got all in to my carb and I can tell you its gettin alot better mileage but the performance is down some I went from .101 primary jets to .095, lighter springs and bigger metering rods. I don't want to say that mileage doubled but it's noticable. I plan to go up one spring size and drive it.
My book shows the stock settings for the main jets on the primary side as being .098, .095 for the secondary side jets and using the .075 x .047 metering rods. And the step up springs as being yellow.
Do you have the jets and rods of this size to try your stock settings out? The .098 would be leaner than the .101's but give you back some power over the .095 jets. You can play with the metering rods a bit before you have to go down in jet sizes.
Superdave, The manual I downloaded said that the primary jets were .095 that is why I started there and it does have stock metering rods, But I put in the blue springs so that the rods will set lower in the jets. That is why I wanted to go up one spring size.
Well maybe I read it wrong, The mileage is way up from before and the power is there if I mash it to the floor maybe even a little extra that wasn't there before. The problem is that it bogs down just off idle. I was planning on working on it last nite but only had time for the Model A.
Superdave, Yes I do have the calibration kit for my carb. I went yesterday and changed my plugs and they looked right on But i still had a bog in the power so I went up a spring size and It got a little better but not what I want yet I plan to try somthing every day or so until I get it fixed or get a Holly. Thanks for the help I'll keep you informed.
I'd try the stock settings on the metering rods and primary jets and see what you get there. You get that Edelbrock tuned right for your engine and it will work good for you.
I've got almost 500 miles on the new engine. Everything looks good this time.
SuperDave, Just an update on where I'm at on my truck. I told you in my last repley that I changed springs well it helped some but not enough so I went down a metering rod. I checked my plugs before hand and they looked ok maybe a little brown if anything defintally not wht like its too lean. So after the change the bogg in trottle went away and it runs better. If I wasnt so cheap I would just pay to have it dyno tuned. ( in the back of my mind I'm thinkin it might need to come apart again this spring)
Thanks Wayne
