I'm looking for a truck, I've been looking at the 3.5 ecoboost but I'm curious about the F250 superduty. How do you like the overall empty drivability, towing capability, and MPG of the truck. unfortunately it'll be a daily driver so it matters a little. My curent explorer gets 19, I'm told the 3.5 gets around 17, does the F250 get at least 14 or 15?
After owning both a 150 and 250 I'd pick the 250 everytime. Doesn't sound like you need a diesel which is the only way you get that milage (but you'll pay for it). My 19 6.2 gas gets 13mpg. The 2020s with the 10 speed might get 14-15 after the break in.
Drive a 2020 6.2L with the 10 Speed and hydro-assist steering. For a driver that doesn’t need a diesel, it’s a great setup. I drove one in KC as a rental. Easy to drive and easy to maintain. Go drive one! You can’t go wrong with an SD.
DD and you are worried about gas mileage? I'd stay with the F150 if I were you. Smaller, more nimble, rides better, maintenance will be slightly cheaper, better gas mileage, etc...
I would only suggest a SD if you were against the limits of a 1/2-tons capacity.
My 3.5 ecoboost fx4 lariat ultimate with max tow VS my 2019 f250 6.7 4x4 Platinum diesel is about the same mpg. I think the F250 is a better chassis especially with the adaptive steering, and the f150 has a softer ride.
The 6.2 gas will get less obviously, maybe 2 mpg less. I bet it would do ok with the 10 speed in the f350 though.
The F150 vs Superduty at purchase is not much different MSRP but I have heard of crazy big Ford discounts on the F150s when they are running sales.
If you just need a “truck” that can do some home deopt stuff and tow when in a pinch my 2wd 2.7 ecoboost f150 gets amazing mpg and is hella fast. I beat an S2000 over the weekend by a good margin, and a modded 04 lightning only took me by half a length over 2 blocks (little more than 1/8 mile). Get the payload package with 3.73s if you get the 2.7.
If you want a Super Duty, then you need to reconcile that with yourself. Nobody here can talk you into or out of that decision. If you think you need a Super Duty, then you need only to crunch the numbers. Every topic possible has been thoroughly wrung out so a little search digging will tell you everything over which you could possibly be curious.
I just checked to see and you can get the 2.7 in the lariat supercrew 4x4 with 3.73 gears.
Tad bit shorter tires on my 2wd (or maybe the same as I went one size up when replacing them). It has Tons of pep, its fast.
Tows ok.
Yes, you can. But you can't get the 622 payload package that includes the 9.75" gearset. Gives a nice bump in payload for the small ecoboost. Unfortunate it's not available on higher trims.
I just upgraded from a 150 to a 250 platinum diesel. I can say without a doubt I’m not going back to a 150. The 250 was not a need but I was up against it a little on a few tows a year with a boat. Bottom line I am happy to feel like I’m driving a truck again!
My f250 with the 6.2 struggles to gets 12.8 mpg. It’s pretty consistent. My dad has a f150 with the 3.5. His mpg is all over the place, depending on how the truck is driven.
If you stick with the F 150 get the 3.5 with 3.73. I have a 2019 F350 dually regular cab with 3.73 and the average mpg now this is combined overall total towing and regular driving is 10.4 mpg.

I love my F250. It rides well, you sit up very high and have plenty of room. That said, I also loved my 2015 F150 3.5L ecoboost. It does have a smoother ride and has the ability to tow quite a bit. In the 150 combined driving I got between 17.5 and 19 mpg. Combined driving in my F250 6.7lL I get 17.5-18.5 mpg so there's not a huge difference there. Gas is about 50 cents a gallon cheaper than diesel, right now, so that's a consideration. Also, oil change and basic maintenance is higher in a 250 diesel. If you are towing less than 10,000 lbs, I'd drive each and decide. I doubt you'll be disappointed with either truck.
