Anyone use a dorman idm? I'm sure they are all rebuilt from oem or? I know not to use them for anything. But I have to ask. Might be a more convenient as the local parts place has or can get it. And this might not be the last time I need one. It seems the 7.3 vans idm gets wet. At least I think that's what the Tsb-96-19-09 indicates. I can't actually open the only one I could find.
I will probably opt for the high voltage current as well. I don't know what the Dorman IDM price is, but from what I gather DTC is pricey but they get the job done right the first time around.
What part number are you using for the Dorman IDM? I looked (briefly) on the Dorman site and on a couple parts stores sites and did not see it listed.
Since i have been googling 7.3 idm. I had a whole shopping list of them available. Its actually a carquest brand from advanced auto.
I added a pc of sheetmetal over mine under the hood. I think it could help deflect any water. Weird thing is everything is as dirty as it has been. No real evidence of water...i would think it would have washed some dust off.
I don't think I'd take my chances in the bargain bin with something as important as an IDM. Probably sending it to Dieseltechchatt would be the best alternative to buying a brand new one from the stealer.
I am using the carquest idm in the link above. No change in the way the truck runs and that's good. I went this route as they had the least core fee and 50$ off if I paid for online. This left me w the water damaged one to have rebuilt. And allows for time of said rebuild.
Get the parts store to price match IDM and get it for well under $200.
The only advantage here is easy exchange if you have an issue. Ive used several of these and the only one I’ve exchanged threw codes, but still worked good.
I'm a little burnt on idm expenses in the last 90 days. Luckily my brother is soldering the new resistor s to repair the water damaged one.
The sob that sold me the 140v is a worthless Magot. He sold me a used idm that had no mods. He claimed a local co that's well know, handled the mod. My original was probably fine and this guy probably does this type of thing a lot. I'm an honest person and I was diligent on finding someone who had a good reputation. It didn't take long for him to show his true colors.
Ironicly 45 days after I install said 140v idm its full of water and quits. Or I may not have ever known.

hello, I’m new here but I wanted to ask I I could get all the part numbers or were our brother got all the parts for the IDM the capacitors and resisters. My IDM is out on my 02 f250 7.3 LT 4x4 and I know how to repair parts on the electrical board. I just don’t know how and we’re I can order the parts I don’t want to replace any of them and be wrong and end up damaging it even more.
Anthony,
my damaged board had a cap or resister with corroded leads. So i ordered that piece and the ones mentioned in the video. My supposed upgraded idm had never been modded. You can tell if they are as a 140v idm was never made commercially. That is they have to be modded. I havent tried my repaired one yet. My carquest idm has been fine. I ordered what i needed on amazon.

I avoid Dorman like a gas station hot dog. DigiKey and Mouser are good sources for electronic parts. You can usually find identifying numbers on the electrical components and then find a newer component with the same specs.
