You are right, I just have to keep looking around.
What do you guys think is too high mileage for a V10?
I just found an 05 V10 with 155k and they are asking 11k for it.
V10's don't care about mileage. Mine has 250k on it and runs like new, I've seen them with over 400k no problems...
carfax report on the red excursion shows it was only driven 2000 miles from 2014 to 2019. It makes me wonder what was going on here. The excursion is super clean though!
My best advice I can give... take your time and do not be in a rush to buy one.
Gas vs diesel is meh to me, I have both types (in platforms including, and outside, the Ex)
They both have their pro's and con's, and to me those outweighs themself in a vica versa aspect. It is more a personal preference imho.
My biggest thing has always been what you are getting, the bang for your buck shopping theory.
Find a later model 2005 in great shape with low miles is ideal, finding a low miles great shape 7.3 (more reliable if you plan to tune/hotrod it from everything I have gathered) is also ideal, yet if you want a newer '05 in diesel, again not a bad option imho as long as you take the time to learn about the motor. It gets a sort of bad rap, but that is more user error in my honest opinion, I may change my mind if mine acts up down the road lol!
Again find one with the options you want, with the cleanest body you can find, that has good maintenance records, this usually involves the lowest mileage you can find, and hopefully a low enough price you feel good about buying it. (That last one has kept me looking for a year or more before buying a vehicle, but I am patient)

Could just be a really lazy owner like myself. I think I have put 5k on my F250 over the last 6 years. Spare vehicle you only use at certain times.
And my 1958 F-100 has probably gotten 7k miles on it since I bought it in high school many decades ago.
I however probably have more plated vehicles than the average person. I however know there are other people who do the same thing.
All the vehicles in my sig are plated, plus a couple motorcycles.
You are right! Patience is the answer to my Excursion hunt. Thanks, Markken.
I have been looking up cabin noise for the 7.3 and I'm getting mixed answers. Do you guys know if the noise is very loud and maybe would be annoying on a long road trip? I probably wouldn't mind it as that 7.3 sounds amazing.
Mine is fairly loud inside. I have a fuel recirc system as well as an oil cross over on the heads, both will help with the 'cackle' of a diesel. Mine is less noisy than a stock 7.3. But, that being said, still loud inside. On long trips the drone gets to you a bit.
One of my upcoming projects is interior noise mitigation. There are several posts about it and I will be doing several upgrades while the interior is apart.
I think you are right, one thing I was thinking about with the 7.3 is on long road trips I wouldn't have to stop as much to fill up. At the start of my excursion hunt I was leaning towards a 7.3. In the last few days, I have changed my mind and now I think I'm set on the V10. I will be patient and hopefully, the right one comes my way.
That 2005 V10 from Houston link I posted with the two captain chairs in the middle row was the one I was hoping to get.
V10 is a good choice if you're not set on a diesel. Some people won't have anything else but if you're open to a v10 that's what I'd pick. You are right the range will be less per tank, but the v10 is smoother and quieter. They are very reliable and wayyyyy less maintenance. You won't have to carry a bunch of spare parts like you'll do with the 7.3.

Nearly all of my V-10 EXs miles are towing a 12K TT where it's getting 8 to 9 MPG and my bladder usually needs emptying about the same time (or before.....) that the big wagon needs more gas. So if it's the number of stops that are your concern, I think the EXs 44 gallon fuel tank will out mileage your personal needs. Our EX has an effective 4.39 gear ratio, a 4" lift and 35" tires, all things that typically work against your MPGs, but on a rare unloaded trip with 3 adults and just my road trip tools onboard we traveled home to the Philly burbs from Columbus OH with the cruise set to 65 MPH the entire 450 mile highway run with the AC on about half the time and got 14.5 MPG. So with refueling when there is still 5 gallons in the tank (my low fuel light comes on about there or a little lower) at that mileage you would cover 565.5 miles and at 65 MPH that would be 8.7 hours, way beyond my personal capacity.
