Anyone been wrongfully fired?

Now i know no one who has ever been fired has deserved it right? My situation is legitimate. I was fired on the basis of two employees (security guards whom I had personal differnces with) who filed false reports, full of lies, misstatements, and statements taken out of context, which i can prove. Without much detail, the company, using these documents filled with lies, decided i violated a code of condut policy by these statements and fired me. I was never asked for my side, just fired on the basis of what these two guards said. It seems wrong to me. is there anything I can do? Non union private company, 4,000 plus workers. I was an electrician. Thanks.

Looks like its time to make a move, Electricians can apply their trade anywhere.

Fighting causes you a lot of stress, with 4,000 employees do you think they really care? Maybe, maybe not.

just be calm about it right now and just move on to another job somewhere else. i do feel bad about your story and yes its not fair for you to not explain your side to your boss and its wrong but some bosses do this just to cut corners and just dont care.i for one am a union officer for my local and do my investigations very carefully and walk in the office and do my very best who is what and deal with them. like i said just move on to something else and put it behind you.

File for unemployment? Let them defend the termination. At least you will get a hearing. But be warned. If they find against you you will have to repay any money you recieve.

Other Bower here:
My husband was in a similar situation. He was laid off temporarily. During this time his mom died unexpectedly and his brother got married 2 weeks later. His supervisor, knowing the situation from me, had the nerve to call the day we were going to the funeral to ask if he would work that day (only that day, not back full-time)
Then she called again the day of the wedding and asked the same thing (both were Saturdays). When he didn't come in she decided he was "unreliable" and had some pet employees "remember" witnessing him driving company rigs unsafely. He was terminated, but he went to the Labor Board and got a small settlement. He was a good employee but it worked out for the better. He has a great job now and doesn't have to deal with the backstabbing.

This could be a blessing in disguise for you. Do you really want to go back to a place where those people are willing to lie about you? Get the unemployment as mentioned, find yourself another job and be glad you're out of that mess.

(sorry for the long post but this still bugs me.)

At the warehouse I work at in town, they have an attendance policy where they give you a "point" for being absent, no matter the reason for the absence. They also have a disciplinary policy, that ranges from getting a verbal or written warning all the way to being suspended without pay, and for serious offenses, to termination.

Awhile back, there were some employees who were accused of stealing from a satellite warehouse where they worked with no supervision. One of those fired was the ringleader, who was taking the product and reselling it. Two of the others were paid off by the ringleader to look the other way. They got $25 for it, according to the latest rumor, and were terminated because they did not report the ringleader to management, and (again according to rumor) for not cooperating with the company to find out who the ringleader was. The last employee to be fired was found to have found out about the thefts after the fact, but since he did not feel he had a strong enough case to take to management, he did nothing. I suppose in the course of investigation, his name had come up and he was suspended for 3 days, no pay. Well, when he returned to work, the front office decided that punishment was not enough, so they decided to give him points for the absence, which they had imposed. This gave him too many attendance points, and he was fired.

But, in this state, attendance point systems are not recognized as a valid basis for termination, so he fought for unemployment and won. Then he sued them for denying him due process, won again, and got a big cash settlement, because the company would not give him his job back.

I wrongfully quit one time depending on how you look at it. I had a job were the hours were 6am to 2:30am. I was new only there for a month and I had learned all the machinery involved and basically nothing I couldn't do to preform the task at hand at different stations within the first day of them showing me. As mentioned, I had been there for a month or so and asked the supervisor should our time go over can I leave I have to go to the bank and straighten up some things they had screwed up. No problem. I leave at 2 and low and behold we were gonna have to work later so I was told to come back asap. No problem. I went, straightened it out and came straight back well there were two people in my section taking a break outside and I asked them how it was going they said we are almost finished the supervisor has even already left so I asked if they needed me to stay and they say no go on and leave we will be fine. So I do. Next day I am working and minding my own business and the plant manager comes down and says step in this office and here comes the supervisor I sit down and he starts asking me what the h**l I was doing not coming back?? What? I stated I did come back and was told it would be okay to leave. He stated I should have told the supervisor I said I did however when I returned she had left and the others told me I didn't have to stay or clock back in. He stated you should have asked the person in charge that would be me (plant manager). I stated I returned at a time when you would normally be gone and it didn't occur to me but I did ask the remaining employees the status, and they said I didn't have to stay they didn't need me. (keep in mind he was an a**) he liked to make this one fellow litterally cry, threatening this that and the other and he was allegedly his friend or something, and there was another fellow whom worked with me he would take him into his office and try and make him feel bad or something as well at least a couple of days a week.??? He started this crap about me not doing my job and not showing up on time etc and not one of these things were even remotely true. He stated I couldn't do my job blah blah blah. I said then ask the supervisor sitting next to me, as that person actually worked beside myself, as to what I can and cannot do. He does and the supervisor stated he does know the machines and does a good job at that, and shows up on time. I said I didn't mean to cause a problem as I was under the impression it was okay to just stay off the clock and leave being when I came back they said it was okay. Then he starts this crap well I don't know if we need someone like you???? What does that mean? He states he should do this and that. I think he thought he had me or something and was gonna break me in some way so I stood up walked out the door and he walked behind me I grabbed my jacket turned around shook his hand and said thanks for giving me a chance. My intent was to make him look/ feel like an idiot but I don't think it came off that way, and I proceeded to walk out the door and left. Oh well cannot win them all. All of this because the bank didn't deposit my money into my account rather deposited the money back into my previous employers account. They charged me for all kinds of overdrafts and swore up and down it was my fault. About 5 months later my previous-previous employer called and said we did our end of the year bookwork and found your check deposit. That bank kissed my *** a bit that day. I mean one time before they deposited my money into my dads account? Why they did that I will never know (other than out names are pretty close at a glance) thought no big deal but this time with multiple over draft charges it got ugly. I know a really long and boring story but its cheap therapy. Later

If a company wanted me gone, I would leave. Kind of like a bad relationship, once one person wants out it's time for both to go their seperate ways. Twice in my work life I have been called into the "cry room" to listen to some of the same BS mentioned above, both times I have told them to "Take this job and shove it" and walked out. Employers that pull that kind of crap are not worth working for. Both times I was employed by the end of the day. The second time the "boss" came running out to make sure I was really quitting, the idiot actually thought I was joking until he saw me cleaning out my desk.

I have been "disciplined" at other places and I deserved it and was a better employee for the "attitude adjustment". Who wants to work at a place where the only reason you are there is because nobody has the stones to fire you.

Thank everyone for replying. I really appreciate the response. Two things. The first is I can't go to the unemployement office, because i'm still employed at a different job (i've always worked two jobs, i'm going nuts only working one, hence all the time spent here.)

Secondly, I loved my job. My bosses weren't responsible for my termination. I worked for the electrical department for L.L. Bean (terrible company to work for by the way), but my department things were really swell. My supervisiors were told to fire me by their upper management. One of my bosses was on vacation and they called him in to do it. I know they fought for me, and they wer both teary eyed. It made me feel good to see that I wasn't the only emotional one. I did write a letter to all of those uppermanagement people who made the decision. I even wrote the president and chairman of the board. That was a week ago, i wonder if i'll hear anything. oh well. Thank everyone again.
