Will it ping with tuner.

Hi guys, I have a 01 F250 with the 6.8 that has 250k on it. If I run 87 octane is will ping when I lug the engine. I run 93 in there and no ping at all. I am slowly getting this truck to where I want it. Putting headers on it soon and the next step will be a 5star tuner.

So the question goes... will the thing still ping with at tune or will that do enough to permanently solve this?

Anyone had a pinging before installing one of these tunes?

If it were me, I'd fix that ping before doing anything else.

I had pinging before and after tuning. I did 2 treatments of Seafoam Intake treatment and took care of it. It's about time for another treatment.

5 Star told me the 87 octane tune does not alter timing, just opens the air/fuel loop and gives you trans adjustments. The 89 octane and up tunes will advance timing, which can cause pinging. And if you already have it, it will make it worse. But like Krewat says, you need to address and resolve before tuning.

Interesting, I haven't put a lot of miles on this truck since I've owned it but if I'm running the 87, it always pings. I guess maybe it is just carboned up. I will see about doing the seafoam treatment and see how it does. Any other suggestions for dealing with it in the short term?

Plugs/boots/check fuel injectors/fuel treatment/air-fuel filter/check vacuum lines/exhaust manifold leaks/pcv valve and hoses. My guess with 250k on it, it probably has a good bit of carbon built up in the intake tract. Mine had 100k when I did the Seafoam treat.

I have done most of the other stuff Plugs, coils, filters, pcv.. etc... I'm thinking the sea foam might do me some good. I think I fight get some fuel treatment also for a few tanks to se if it makes a difference. Thanks
