The app needs to be set up to allow permissions and should prompt you when connected with a proper data cable. Did you also install the android auto?

Did you download the AA app to your phone?

Disregard, i missed the part about downloading the app.

Try a different cable.

All the above. Need basically every permission enabled for the app and a good cable.

Android Auto needs to be enabled in settings, on page 2

The problem is I don't have or can't get AA on my head unit , i checked the 2nd screen , I'm thinking it's my cord, I downloaded the app on my Samsung S9 and allowed all permissions and then plugged into one of the usb in the truck

Did you open the app on your phone prior to plugging it in?

And are you plugging the cord into the usb for sync?

I don't even have the option to enable AA on my sync 3 due to the icon isn't there on page 2

Are you using the cable that came with your phone or an aftermarket one.

Sometimes, this can and does make a difference.

Also, if it’s an “aftermarket cable”, I’ve heard that Android Auto can be finicky if the cable is too long.

Try a Master Reset of the SYNC system. This might bring up the missing icon.

I just did a master reset and still no icon , i'm guessing there is no sense wasting money on a cord till I at least get the icon on my head unit, or do you think the app should put the icon on the screen with a proper cord ?

I just did some digging and it looks like that icon only appears in settings once it has detected an android auto comparable phone. I would swap out the cord and give it another try.

That’s a very good question but if you still have the stock cable that came with your Android phone, it wouldn’t hurt to try it.

A good way to narrow things down would be to try your phone and the cable you have on another Ford vehicle.......if the same problem happens, then it has to be your phone or the cable and if not, then it’s either a
problem with the head unit or the actual USB port in the vehicle.
