Long story short I had a CPS go bad and had to limp the truck home 70 miles with engine runing quiting surging bucking all the way home at midnight we just left the hospital where my wife had a major surgery.
When I got home and figured out what the problem was I looking all over the motor and noticed there was oil in the engine valley.
Most likely from the engine surging turn it self off and on on 70 mile limping the truck home blew a seal.
It ended up being a turbo pedestal seal, after taking it apart the EBPV was leaking also.
So I did a EBPV delete at same time installed a 470 ohm resistor in the EBPV conector so it willn't throw a soft code.
also rebuilt the turbo as long it apart installed a wicked wheel, and oil crossover hoses, turned the wastegate turn buckle in 3.5 turns so the wastegate gate opens at higher pressure I didn't want to disconnect the red wastegate tube.
Picked up a Superchip tuner 1705 for $50.00 set the tuner on preformance tune.
I use to get 16.5 empty on the HWY I now get 20.5.
I know the Hydra tuner is better tuner but for $50.00 for the Superchip tuner I couldn't go wrong.
This not a race truck it gets cruised the extra power to get up to speed on the HWY is nice and the extra MPG is why I purchased the tuner in the first place is worth every penny of the $50.00 investment.
...except that if you're going by the overhead display and not hand-calculating at fill-ups, you're being lied to.
Sorry, nothing will increase your mileage like that other than an infinite downhill grade or a stiff tailwind.
That being said, there is nothing wrong with the Superchips 1705 or the tuning on it. If you like the way it runs then use it!
FYI:
My 1997 F250 OBS went from 16/17 to 20/23 Hwy mpg doing only these mods in one day. 350k on motor then, 408k now.
1) Gutted Cat.
2) Deleted EBPV
3) Add 6637 filter
Stranger things have happened.
I didn't think it was right either.
So recalculate by hand and it did pick up 4 MPG.
I thought when I bought this truck it should of gotten a little better MPG.
When I had my 97 with 7.3 it got a bit better MPG.
Then again something could been off this whole time but now it is right.

I got about 2.3MPG out of the SC 1705 set on the high performance tune cruising 80-85 and aggressively passing when needed; hand calculated, back to back on a trip to AZ. The milder tunes do less. The Hydra on the 'fuel sipper' tune does about the same as the 1705 on 'high performance', I might try one of the hot tunes next time and see what it does. Slowing the brick down a little and being less aggressive about passing makes a noticeable difference in MPG, but I haven't been able to convince myself to do any less than 75-80 for long periods.
Since he made other changes they could have added up to 4MPG. Saying that it's impossible to increase by 4MPG, especially without knowing anything about his truck or his driving, is dumb. I've made MPG improvements to many vehicles, some of them were huge.
I have the same SuperChip tuner for over 15 years and like it very much. The shift points do change from the 'Stock' vs High Performance vs Tow Mode. In the 'Stock' manufactured 'mode' it does shift and feel like 'a' truck. With the chip tuner the shift points being different it does change your mpg. and drives better. But also, keeping it under 2000 rpms and drive like there is an egg under the pedal helps too. The SuperChip tuner can also be used to read your 7.3 codes. I do have a BTS transmission, with BTS shift plate. For a time I was getting around 20mpg ( hand calculated) when I only drove it very 'nicely' and not as a race car/truck. I say 'for a time', because the air filter and fuel filter are dirty and I need an oil change and I think I have a boost leak and the egg under the pedal broke. My truck is not my daily driver and I mostly use it to pull a 35foot camper. When pulling my camper I 'average' around 14-16 mpg. 4mpg increase, yes it is possible, but it will not 'stay' that way.... It is a truck drive it and use it like the good truck it is.
I don't drive the truck hard at all.
last time I got a speeding ticket 3 or 4 years ago cost me $500.00.
So I don't speed I am retired and no big hurry.
I wacth others go around me and 5 miles up the road and there side of the road getting a speeding ticket I go cruising by them waving at them.
