Probable Transmission/engine/diff F-100
I am not the most familiar with older Fords, so I'm looking for a little help on identifying (probable) drivetrain components. First I'll give a bit of back ground:
I have a (grandpa bought new) '64 F-100 2wd 262i6 with 4 speed manual and 4.10 Dana 44 or 60.
Runs and drives but not super well.
I have access to a newly refreshed 351cleveland I may drop in, and someone about 6 hours from me has a 1971 2wd F100 with 300i6, 4 speed, unknown diff.
I'd rather not drive to find out, what is likely the trans and differentials on a truck like his? Specifically transmission model. (Just best guess) I believe the 351c should bolt to it with the 300i6 pattern? Just need the flywheel balanced if I'm not mistaken? And I suppose his would likely have 4.10 as well, 9" or Dana? It does have big mirrors but not sure of any camper/HD package.
Thanks in advance, anything is helpful
#2. Your 64 4 speed is most likely the Borg-Warner T-98, which is the older brother of the B-W T-18 so pretty much the same.
#3. The 64 rear is most likely the Dana 44, not a Dana 60.2 which came later, besides the 9 inch.
#4. The 351C uses the later Small Block Ford pattern like the Big Sixes use. Make sure it is a Cleveland, not an M or 400 motor which use the 429/460 pattern.
#5. The 71 F-100 will most likely have used the 9 inch rear with gearing most likely 3.25 to 4.10. Even though the 4 speeds available were the B-W T-18 and the New Process 435, it seems the T-18 was used mostly in the F-100.
