I have a cracked left tail light and was considering replacing both sides, at the same time installing led bulbs. While researching, I have been looking for CAPA or NSF certified parts. My concern is after a couple years they tend to haze over if they're cheap plastic aftermarket parts. Two questions, has anyone ever heard of CAPA certified tail lights from "Depot"? This is a company selling on Amazon. Another thing that baffles me is many "certified" by CAPA or NSF are for 2002 and newer. Aren't all of the years of Excursions tail lights interchangeable?

I replaced both of mine with TYC brand and got them from Rock Auto. The lenses were an exact match to stock, but the rubber surround seal was not, so I used the old ones. This is what they say on Rock Auto: For extra confidence, some TYC lamps are certified (denoted in catalog) by independent, third part organizations like CAPA or NSF who guarantee fitment and quality equal to original equipment.
Hmm, I was going to suggest you just get the OE from Ford as they were fairly inexpensive, they are showing discontinued per the Excursion part numbers..!!!
I thankfully replaced mine a couple years ago.
Looking a little further, they are avail for 2004 & 2005 with a different part number. And just under $41.00 each.
Additionally if you are looking to do LED tail lights too, I found the Sylvania Zevo bulbs to be the best, w/lifetime warranty. They actually emit the light rearward right into the chrome reflector in the housing making great projection outward.
They are both CAPA certified so the fit should be perfect, and free shipping w/ Amazon Prime. The problem with ordering from Ford is, many dealers charge different prices for the same part number. Unsure why, maybe it's an area / market thing. Many, including TASCA rape you with shipping charges. Unbelievable rates, and you know they have accounts with the shippers (UPS, FedEx, etc) and are making up their margins by overcharging shipping. It's the oldest trick in the book!
Now that I bought the VLEDS for the backup lights, I need to find some nice brake/turn/running light bulbs. I believe they are 3157's. I'd sure like to get some VLEDS for those but I'm afraid I've blown my budget on the reverse lights.
*****Update*******
Just ordered the tail light bulbs from VLEDS, the Extreme Red 800 lumens
Now I should have nice bright tail lights so people will have no excuse to not see me braking or changing lanes. I trust VLEDS products will be as good of quality as anyone's. I hope to never need to replace them.
When I did the Econoline 3 color taillight swap years ago, I ordered the parts at the dealer. At that time, the actual housings bolted in, but the gasket was different and I had re-use the factory Excursion gasket.
I’m sure the OP isn’t looking to do the 3 color swap, but just a heads up to check the gasket.
