I’m about to swap the 4.6 in my daughters truck. The thing I’m running into is 6 bolt flywheel versus 8 bolt. Is one for an automatic and one for a standard? Or am I off base here. How can I tell which I need before pulling the motor?
The number of flywheel bolts is based on which engine you have.
One is a Windsor engine and one is the Romeo engine.
(And I can’t remember which is which :-(
Maybe bluegrass will jump in here and set us straight.
All 5.4L have 8 bolt mounting.
4.6L Romeo (US factory) have 6 bolts, 11 valve cover bolts and main crank bearing jack bolts in the side of the block.
4.6L Windsor (CANDIAN near by just across the line, factory) have 8 bolts and 13 valve cover bolts.
A look at these differences should tell you what you have..
