OK>...I have been PB blasting this thing for a week and intend to tackle the fix this weekend..any advice on how to go about breaking it loose without damaging the intake?

The solvent soaking probably helped. If it doesn't release readily you could try some heat/cool cycles. After it comes out you may have to clean up the threads. When installing the new one you may want to put something on the threads so it seals and discourages corrosion in case you ever want to remove it again.

I just pulled mine Tuesday. Hit it with Liquid Wrench then slowly began rocking it back and forth a fraction at a time until it came loose. I do have an Edelbrock SP2P aluminum intake so that probably made it easier.

A quick question on the fitting, mine has a dip tube, meaning there is an extension of about 2" that sticks down into the water passage. Is it necessary?

What type of something would I put back on it? I was wondering if I need to use some thread tape
