engine swap

I have a '65 F100 that has a tired 390 and 3 spd standard. I recently found a '75 F250 with a 460 and a C6. It also has a/c and power disc brakes. My '65 already has power steering swap. What is invoved in swapping the 460 and C6? Also can the front I-beams be swapped to get the disc brakes or is that not possible since the donor is a 3/4 ton. Thanks for any feedback.

topmoo, Welcome to FTE! The 460 will go in your 65 no problem, so will the ac and almost all the other pieces you mentioned. You could build the 65 to a 250 if you like or find a I Beam and spindles from a 76-79 F100. You could move the sheetmetal to the later frame and solve the fuel tank in the cab issue. You have a bunch of choices! Let us know what you decide. That 460 is a hoss, but so is a strong 390. If it was me, I would move the sheetmetal to the 75 frame and build a 65 250 with 460 and C6.

William,
Thanks for the input. I hadn't even thought of using the 75's frame. Sounds like a great idea.

Picked up the 75 today (drug it out of the yard with a large Ford tractor), had to pull it 5 miles through the country with no brakes. The tires held air (truck has been sitting for 7 years since the owner died). Decided I really dont want the rough ride of a 3/4 ton, so will swap the motor and tanny. Taking the motor to have it redone completely and the trans too. This 75 F250 has power steering, power brakes, factory AC, 460, and a C6. Good radiator, trans cooler, and ac radiator. No dents but some rust. The molding is all there, grill is perfect, bumpers perfect, and someone made it into a dually. It also has a large camper on the back. 200 bucks! (the remaining family is all Chevy people). There are at least 15 other cars there ranging from junk to unreal. Only problem is almost all are Chevys. The best is a 57 Chevy 4 door that only has 40K miles. It doesn't have a dent on it and the inside looks like it just got detailed. Even has the original wide whites in the trunk. Just sitting under some trees collecting sap. It, like most of the others, was driven to the spot it now rests.

Man! Bet you could part the 57 for good money and really fix up that 65!

I thought about getting that 57 just for that reason, to finance my 65. I found out they want 8K for it as it sits! I might offer them something for the 55 2 dr post, the 54 5 window PU, and the 56 4dr. If they take a low offer for all three I will clean them up, get them running and sell them for Ford money.

Check the TECH Articles link on the Home page and there is an article about converting from drum brakes to disc brakes and what you need to get. I did it and it went together very easy. About all you need to do is spend some time in a salvage yard hunting for spindles. Good Luck!!
