Make sure you have the prewire on the back wall of your truck first by folding down the rear passenger seat and pulling down the rear wall carpet. It will be a 16 pin connector in a white holder if you have it. If it's not pre-wired you will need a PnP harness a guy on a F150 forum makes. The VIN is helpful when activating the hotspot with ATT but it's not necessary as you can find the wrecked trucks VIN by connecting to the hotspot and it will show it on the login screen briefly after you connect. Otherwise yes that is all you need.
Doubtful the 2018 will be prewired. Mine has the power running board module in the spot where the modem would go, on 2019 I believe that module was relocated to the center console area to make room for the modem. The premade harness plugs into the CAN test port connector which is on the passenger side of the center console behind the glove box if you have it at all. Mine did not have it. Harness would not be difficult to make yourself if you are comfortable with wiring, I am making mine to connect to the BCM at the factory spot (Fuse 10) ground at the rear wall, and I haven't made a final decision on where to tap the CAN wires, I will either go up front to the GWM or over to the DSP in the rear. Just a reminder if you make your own connector the CAN wires have to be a twisted pair. Factory size is 22AWG for the CAN and 20 AWG for power and ground.
Not prewired sorry. The box with the Black and Gray plugs is for the power running boards so that is where the modem would go. The plug you would be looking for would have 4 wires on a black connector. HS3 CAN would be (White/Green, Green/Blue), Power (Yellow/Red), Ground (Black/Violet)
Be sure you have the CAN test port as that is what the harness is designed to plug into. You more than likely do not as we have the same year model and mine did not. It is a gray 4 pin plug behind the glovebox on the center console side. He may have figured out another option for those that don't have it by now but be sure to ask when you order.
Ok. Thanks for the heads up. I purchased the link you sent me from eBay. So at least I have the part. How did you get yours to work without the plug?
I have not installed mine yet but am building my own harness. All you have to do is tie into the HS3 CAN network somewhere and it will work. Mine will most likely end up as a wire added to the DSP plug but this requires crimping a new pin on the wire. There are plenty of other devices on that network but the DSP is closest. It runs from the GWM to the IPC, APIM, ACM, and a few more. Double check and see if you have the test port plug, it is on the wiring diagram for 2018 but mine did not have it.
Agreed, I was hoping mine would have been prewired as well especially when the wiring diagram says it should be there. Check on the pre made harness anyway, he might have figured out a solution for those without the test connector as well.
