Interesting. It checks out as for "with gauge" but it's the only listing of four or five that says it's a "switch" while the others list out as "senders" like you would expect.
I would check the resistance with an ohm-meter with the engine cold and with it up to running temp and see what the variation is. If there is no variation, then it's either defective (not uncommon these days) or the wrong part (also not uncommon) and is just listed with a vague and vaguely incorrect description.
If there is a resistance change, you're looking for an approx. 73 to 10 ohm sweep. With 73 being cold and 10 being full hot.
the old sender is what I was referring to.
tested the terminal end to ground and the
gauge works the old sensor does not.
No Teflon tape. the new sensor does have
red stuff on the threads and it is a MotorCraft sensor.
have yet to install the new sensor.
I was trying to make sure I got the proper sensor.
all I have read gives mixed answer.
one says temp switch. other ( rock auto) says for gauge.
Actually RockAuto was the one I referenced which says "switch" too. But it does at least say "switch for gauge" so there's probably no problem.
But you can measure the resistance on the new one and compare it to the old one. You should see roughly 71-74 ohms between the threads and the post.
I will know this Friday for sure. it is getting installed tomorrow and I pick up the truck Friday.
I also got an aftermarket gauge as well. nothing expensive but it should work.
The aftermarket gauge will be installed this weekend if I have time.
