Hey guys, I just installed a new stereo in my 95 f150 and here's the problem. After about 15 minutes of driving my truck (15 minutes never fails) my drivers side speaker starts to crackle and pop and progresses to get worse the longer I keep my truck running. I immediatly thought a loose wire or something but I just think its odd how its after a while of running. I don't know much about speaker systems.
Thanks
I would suspect something getting hot in the radio itself. If you want to double check the truck, take the radio back out, take the speaker wires loose and then take a ohmmeter and put it across the different speaker wires, which will read all the way down the wire, through the speaker and then back to the radio. If they all look close to the same, I suspect the radio. If of course the driver's side speaker reads differently, you may want to check the wiring. Most factory speakers are around 4 ohms, some are 3.2 ohms. And then you have some resistance in the wiring.
P.S. When you touch the meter to the speaker leads behind the radio, you will hear a pop from the speaker. This is normal, in ohms mode the meter sends out a small voltage through the wiring, and the speaker will pick this up.
If you'll be testing any speaker with DC voltage apply that voltage only as long as it takes to obtain a reading. Speakers operate on fluctuating voltage so leaving a steady signal on the voice coil causes it to over heat and often times destroying the speaker itself.
