Hey guys, I'm chasing a steering problem on my boss's 96 F350. It's a regular cab 4x4 automatic. While driving straight the wheel wobbles slightly back and forth from right to left, and you can feel it pulling instead of just being a typical loose steering shaft. The truck did the same while going through curves and was amplified by a drifting feeling. I found the ball joints on the driver side were trashed so I replaced all four. While doing the ball joints, I found the axle shaft U-Joint on the driver side was trash as well, so I replaced both U-Joints while the axle shafts were out. After replacing the ball joints and U-Joints, the drifting going through curves is gone, but the steering pulling on straight aways is still there.
I checked the tie rod ends and stabilizer and everything is tight and in good condition. I also rotated the tires front to back to check for an unbalanced tire or bent rim (its a work truck), and had no change. The problem is amplified with the hubs locked and in 4x4. Is the steering box itself going bad? Maybe a bearing in the shaft/box?
