I have a 91 Ranger 4.0 liter 5-speed. I have a problem with the engine reving up while I am driving it. It does not do it all the time. If I hit the gas pedal it revs up and settles back down to the correct rpm. When it revs ups the truck does not increase speed. It is almost like the clutch is slipping but my clutch is only about 18 months old. (centerforce dual friction). I also started having problem with the air conditioner compressor a few weeks before the enging reving started happening. The compressor is only six months old. Could these problems be related?
Hi CalRanger,
While changing the clutch did you happen to change the slave cylinder too? This may be your problem: intermittant slow disenguagement! Revving w/o speed increase = slippage!
