my father just picked up a decent running 88 ranger with the 2.9 and 76k on the odometer and it has the push button 4x4 up above youre head...the old people it came from had the front pumpkin disconnected for whatever reason(the driveshaft between the pumpkin and the trans case taken out for whatever reason) it is unclear as to why this was done but after we see how good of a truck it is i may hook it back up
now there is a driveshaft in the bed i am guessing the one out of it or a replacement but whenever i do decide to reinstall it does it matter how the splined end goes in because i dont know if they marked a line on it when it came out
i ask this because to the best of my knowledge when working with a 2 piece drive shaft on a full size p/u you are supposed to mark the shaft so it goes back in the way it was and doesnt go in out of balance...
and the original questions that i had were why a push button setup and not a lever on the floor,and
the drive shaft is be one-to-one, so if you put it back in, there shouldn't be any problem with how it works. as far as the balance is considered, since it is a one-piecer, i would think that it wouldnt be a concern.
but on the subject, i did my u-joints, and the drive shaft was two pieces. i made a mark on the flange that connects to the differential, so it went back in the same spot. but i didnt make a mark where the two drive-shafts come together. now i have a little vibration. what can i do about it?

as far as that i am not really the person to ask, of the few that ive done ive never had any problems afterwards thank god ,but if im not mistaken i think you may be able to have it re-balanced,but dont quote me..i dont know of any place that does this so i may be wrong this may be impossible
do the right thing go to FTE's drivetrain forum and ask someone whoknows
