2020 Electrohydraulic Steering

Do ALL 2020s have the electrohydraulic steering or is that only the ones that come with pro trailer backup?

I can not find this info anywhere and I also cant find any info from Ford on whether its actually doing anything while driving or is it just during backup assist.

I will say i have a 20 with trailer backup assist and i feel like it might be tighter feeling and maybe helping steer in low speed situations, but again i havent seen any lierature from ford on this.

I know it will be easy to spot due to the aluminum mount on driver side frame rail, but i just havent seen enough '20s to figure this out.

I think only those with the Pro Trailer Assist have it. And if you're stating only those with the aluminum bracket on driver's side rail, I can tell you I have seen many without that bracket.

Gotcha, yep the aluminum bracket is very is to spot and i guess will be a good indicator of a truck having electrohydraulic steering at glance . That thing is VERY noticeable.. a little too noticeable in my opinion. Rattle can will fix that pretty easily!!

I can't find it on my phone right now but search for Mr. Truck video where Ford Engineer Pruett (sp? ) was describing the steering on a 7.3 in the Arizona desert. From what I remember, it does assist at lower speeds besides helping with the pro trailer asst.

I agree. When I was looking at various 2020s, I was like WTH is that thing for. Really sticks out. Ford could afford a little black paint as much as these trucks cost.

Took a 2020 out for a test drive yesterday to see what all the hype was about. The electro hydraulic steering was probably the top new feature I was impressed with. The steering “feel” was great.

I sold my '17 after three months because the steering was so hard to turn (with my bad elbows). I went back and bought a used '16. It has plenty of boost but like all of my other SD's has it feels loose. How does the electro hyd steering feel? More like EPS?

What engine did you test drive?

Thanks

6.7 PSD. It feels closer to an F-150 in its feel and effort.

I'm curious for those that have driven both, does the new steering somewhat alleviate the benefit that adaptive steering provides? I know that adaptive steering still reduces the degrees of turn necessary, but does the new steering feel lighter and smoother to where you might not feel the need for adaptive as much?

Believe its with Pro Trailer assist AND Adaptive Steering also has it I believe. Pro Trailer is something I would never use so I didnt order with it however, its required for the 360 camera and I know the only camera I will miss is the front facing one on my 17.

I have only driven with adaptive steering on my 19. The purpose of the Adaptive steering is to adjust the turning ratio under various speeds, not to make it "smoother", as I don't believe there is any additional assist involved. This electronic overlay on the 2020 would have no affect on ratio (that I'm aware of), but theoretically might make turning easier and give that "smoother" feeling you are referring to if it provides additional assist.

I originally would have thought the electronic overlay, would only come into play when the pro trailer backup **** is being used. It sounds like its providing constant assist though?

That's what it sounds like to me, based on many reports and video comments of the great steering feeling. Furthermore, that's the point I'm trying to get at, i.e., has the new steering improved to the point that folks are pleased enough with it that the 1000 bucks for adaptive isn't as appealing?
