OP and others, I apologize for hijacking the thread. I want to add the tail gate dampner and it looks like I have to remove the tail light to access a bolt. My truck has BLIS and if I remove the tail light, is it true that I need to take my truck to the dealer for recalibration of the BLIS system? Dealer has said so and that sounds like a bunch of BS based on other youtube videos. Can someone let me know, please? Thanks
I have a 2019 F-450 and mine has been off since August of 2019 for my truck camper - not one single error! I have never seen the kit anywhere in my truck???
EDIT: I WAS TRYING TO MAKE THE POINT THAT WITHOUT THE CAPS INSTALLED ON MY REAR PLUGS, I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY ILL EFFECTS (LIKE DASHBOARD ERRORS, ETC) - THAT'S ALL!

My caps were in the glove compartment. Not sure if the dealer put them there, or if that's where the factory places them. Just a plastic bag with a few connector caps.
Whoever said 1 person can do it is either incredibly strong, or doesn't have the integrated step. That thing is heavy and unwieldy for one person to manage.
My '17 came with the delete kit in the glove box. You guys that don't have them, the dealership is probably taking them so they can sell them, lol. I've had my tailgate off by myself. Once it pivoted off I was able to lay it on 2 towel covered saw horses. Not that heavy, just bulky and cumbersome.
I take mine off every month or so to pull a gooseneck. If you do not have the tailgate step it is not bad at all. With the step (mine has it) it will give your back a stress test pulling it off by yourself. I use a cheap electric hoist to lift it off the truck and it is a piece of cake. As others have said, just make sure you put the dust caps on the truck side of the connectors after pulling off the tailgate.
Update. My dealer ordered the right kit for plugging the tailgate connectors truck side. At the factory they screwed up. Truck was new on the lot with 21 miles on the clock. That was cause the drove it to a fair to show off one weekend.
If you have the tailgate recall done you will get a second bag with more caps.
take my tailgate off often for a camper.
first, make sure the tailgate is open before pulling the electrical connections if you have the remote tailgate.
I use a hydraulic table and I 2'x6' piece of plywood to help with removing the tailgate without having to carry it.
I have a few more things I want to do to make it easier and a one person job.
I have done it a few times totally by myself but with the step the tailgate is a little heavy and awkward to carry.
I did drop it on my old truck, don't want to take a chance on this one.
Of the connections, is the rear camera and locking tailgate separate connectors? So I could disconnect the locking mechanism but keep the rear camera? So often I like to just pop the tailgate down but don’t have the key fob with me.

Ford pass shows no recalls on mine. So I would think the recall was done as i have the 4 connections.
Where did you find this diagram? I am trying to determine which of the two connectors contains the backup camera circuit. I need to let the manufacturer of my slide-in truck camper know so they can order the correct replacement camera/wire harness and properly relocate it during installation of the camper. Is it the smaller or larger connector?
