Flywheel Replacement

After changing fuel lines, filter, tfi, stator, cap, and rotor I adjusted the timing, went to start the truck and starter hit a dead spot. Took started off an noticed missing teeth on fly wheel. I was wondering how do I take the tranny off to change the fly wheel. I was thinking just to take off the mounts, cables, and transfer case and slide the whole thing back to get to the converter. Daily driver just turned into project truck :BLUE STALION.

You will need Chilton's or Haynes manual for transmission removal. This is a heavy type job. Disconnect battery first! Remove drive shaft and cover the tail of transmission with a plastic bag and rubber band. That will keep the fluid in. Remove starter. Remove trans shift linkage. Remove bell housing bolts and make sure the tranny is supported with blocks or jack stands. Remember, the torgue converter will still be connected to the flywheel or flexplate. Remove the transmission cross member, make sure the tranny is supported with blocks or jack stands. When you slide tranny back to pull front pump from torque converter be very careful. You don't want to damage the converter or pump shaft. After the tranny is removed you'll be removing the converter to flywheel nuts. Do this from the inspection plate. When you reinstall, put the converter on the tranny but fill it with fluid first. Follow the torque specs for the flywheel to crank flange bolts. Make sure you use new bolts and new lock nuts for the converter. Good luck, and make sure you get the book.

i suggest removing the radiator and pull your motor back this will give u at least 10-12 inches of play time the fly wheel has around 8 bolt (if i can remember ) and shouldnt be hard to do. i did it this way after forgetting to put the new fly wheel on when i put the motor back with the old fly wheel on. Good luck
