My ranger is 2002 3.0 u code engine just over 90,000 miles. Thing about doing the plugs. Awsf32pp is called for it. Motorcraft no longer makes this plug. They spec sp432 agsf32fm. This plug is not double platinum. It is a fine plug for coil on plug applications. But not good on coil packs that are waste spark systems. The plugs that fire on negative side of the coil will wear out the ground strap in about 30,000 miles. Had this happen on an escort. I purchased autolite app104. They are also a fine wire plug but do have a spot of platinum on the ground strap. So I will try them. I just don’t understand Ford’s thinking here. I would prefer motorcraft but I can’t come up with a motorcraft solution. Any ideas???
Autolite is thought to make the Motorcraft plugs for Ford, so should be able to provide the correct heat range plug
I switched the Wifes 2000 Neon 2.0L SHOC waste spark ignition over to Autolite fine wire iridium enhanced center electrode with platinum pad side wire design plugs back in 2010 without any problems. We've noticed quicker year round starts with this design spark plug & so far no regrets with the switch over. Just be careful to choose the correct heat range for your engine.
As spark gap is always opening up, I gapped my plugs to the Low side of spec using Wire gauges as go / no go gap checkers. To prevent electrode damage, use a wire gauge tool & Don't pull it through too tight a gap if you choose to check gap that way.
I also used a Little bit of Permatex high temp nickel anti-sieze on the plug threads & torqued them to the Low side of spec, to compensate for the anti-seize lube effect.
Also buttered on a thin layer of silicone grease to the plugs outer ceramic insulator & inside the plug boots, to cut down on flash over on those wet dewy morning starts, or rainy day drives. Also keeps the boots from baking on, so removal is easier.
Some plug vendor swapping thoughts for consideration.
