2019 Rear Axel Replacement Delay

My dad has an 8500 mile F350 with E-locker. He heard a clicking noise and took it to the dealer and is being told that he needs a new rear axle. It's been 5 weeks and is now being told that the delay is with Dana and there is no projected date for the new axle to arrive. He's pursuing the lemon law but you know how that goes. Ford will fight it but over 30 days and he has a legit case. They have given him a car to drive. The dealer told him today there is a known issue with this specific axle and wouldn't be surprised if a recall isn't issued eventually.

Have any of you heard anything about this being a known issue?

What's the known issue? As far as I know, these electronic locking axles were solid.

Unknown exactly. They told him they were going to order a new gear set and then 3 days later called and told him that Ford was sending a whole new axle. Manager said that was the first time in 30+ years they ever sent a whole axle vs new gears. I'll ask him to see specifically what the problem is.

Why the lemon law? It appears that Ford is going to make the repairs as soon as parts are available. On top of that they've provide a car while waiting on the parts.

Because he needs his truck and they won't even give him a projected arrival date. He bought a 1ton diesel because he actually needs the truck, not because he had an extra $80k sitting around. Driving around in an Edge isn't really getting his trailers moved around. He is having to pay to have them moved and it's a significant cost which Ford has said they won't reimburse him for.

Burn the candle at both ends and whichever happens first is fine with him.

Squeaky wheel also. If he is legitimately heading down the lemon law path, perhaps he will get one of the first ones released when supply allows.

He isn't gaming the system, by the rules of the Lemon Law he is justified in pursuing it.

I actually think if they supply a car it makes Lemon Law harder to do.

Read the rules in your state.

Hope they get it fixed.

Very odd.
axle tubes are not bad.
diff covers are not bad.
bearings are not bad.

But sending an entire axle to fix a single bad part? Why stop there? Just send an entirely new truck?

Sounds shady.

The dealer is speculating that they want the axle so they can figure out why it failed. Dana has traditionally been pretty solid.

And you may want to double check your lemon laws. There are states that only cover up to 10,000 GVW, also only cover non-commercial.
The 10,000 GVW will exclude the 350. And if he is using it for his business that may be classified as “commercial”.
And you nailed it right...... The DANA’s are generally pretty well bullet-proof.

They have already contacted the Ford branch of the lemon law division of whatever down in Florida. their case has been assigned to a case manager. That lady has told them their situation is a no brainer. It’s just a matter if Ford can get the axle in and installed before the case is settled.

im sure Ford will find an axle before they LL a 2019 otherwise perfect SD.

Nope. They are saying that this is a Dana supply issue and that Dana is working on getting them out to dealers. He's been researching and apparently this is a known issue with some '19's. The dealer is speculating that Dana doesn't know what the problem is or if they do, they haven't come up with a solution. They took the axle out of my dad's truck and shipped it to Dana directly. His truck is up on a lift with no rear end under it.

He is pretty far down the lemon law path. His case manager said this one is looking like a no brainer.

Here ya go. 2019 axle recall on certain trucks. Maybe why there is a delay.

Appears to be an axle shaft issue. Easy quick fix if that is the issue with your dads truck. I think you said it was a differential issue though. So maybe not.
