Most of your question depends on what kind of 5ver you are pulling. Some will interfere with the trailer. I don't have the rails on my truck and the reason is that I have grazed the top of the bed with the camper backing into some of the place's I have been. If I had the rails I would have damaged both the rails and the camper.
