Trailer Bearings?

While doing a check over on my open car trailer, I found play in the wheel bearings. I tightened the nut a few degrees and installed new cotter pins. The trailer is two years old with about 3500 miles.

The questions are.....Is this normal?.......How often should the bearings need adjustment and repacking?....How tight should they be?

Bearing wear is normal espcially in the first miles of it's life. As long as the bearings look good and they don't keep needing adjustment it's all fine.

Thumbs up On the safety side.

On my trailer's I greese all bearing every year. I was told that a long time ago and it seems to have kept me in good stead. Not one failure on the road in more years than I really care to mention. Depending on the load, weight, and road situation loosing a wheel or burning one up can be a real Bit....h. Have seen several that cost them thier lives because the trailer ended up pulling the tow vehicle off the road.......NOT GOOD.
But really its up to the individual. for me its part of routine spring maintence.
