timing

I looked, albeit not very hard, for where you guys are setting your timing? Also, short of pulling the cam is there anyway to tell if you have the stock cam in the truck? I set my timing the other day and anything over 8 resulted in a hard (stutter) start. It fires perfectly @ 8 thou. Just curious what you guys all think. I really don't know anything about the engine other than i put a 4 barrel edelbrock 650 on there with a 1 inch spacer and the edelbrock performer intake. Engine looks to have been rebuilt but i am basing that off it being painted and put into a truck that it really doesn't belong in (72 F250 4x4)

Thanks everyone!

you would have to degree the cam, which would involve a fair bit of disassembly then you would also be able to see if its a stock timing set or an old stk/aftermarket adv. timing set. is it a 351m or a 400?
