Was doing some work on the 63 last week and pulled the cluster out. Ended up stripping it. The only primer I had at the house was a flat white Rust-Oleum. Took it to the shop and got a coat of satin clear then put it in the 65 so I can clean up the chrome on it.
BTW, the 65 is a custom cab with the sc cluster, which I like better. The guage on the left I picked up at harbor freight and by the time I get it installed it quit working, but looks better than the hole. Just a bonus shot
These guys have a volt meter for your cluster if you are interested, https://www.wildhorses4x4.com/produc...ter/dashgauges
And if you want to match any different gauges, you can duplicate factory look from these guys. https://www.speedhut.com/gauges/?cat...0debb75d9667b5
I'm going with the stock round gauges as well, I have a good looking factory vacuum gauge for one side and an aftermarket replica tach for the other. And I'll buy my air pressure gauges for my air ride system to match from Speedhut
Painting your dash comes down to what you like. Here's mine.
I like the black and am always a big fan. I picked white because there was a can in the garage LoL, and it matches my paint scheme. Might go black when it goes back to the 63.

Had an Ampere guage in it, and let me tell you, the PO was a McGyver Yes, that is an axle seal used to retain the guage in the dash. For instance this auxillary door latch to fight the Unibody door popping issue.
We never had a problem with the doors popping open on our unibody, and we drove on a lot of desert back roads. Ours was a short bed if that made any difference

My first slick was a 62 shortbed uni and dang near every time I took a right turn my drivers door would pop open. Luckily I usually had a hand on the wheel and the other on the 4ot floor shifter so I rarely fell out.
