The other day my 1993 f350(460 4x4) tranny starting to not want to shift into reverse every now and then after it has been running for awhile(plowing). But if you pumped the pedal it would shift into reverse. Or go into second gear for a bit and then shift
But now all of a sudden it is very hard to get into 1st and especially 2nd gear.
Would a slave cylinder(external) cause it? 3,4 and over drive shift fine.
Have you checked the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder? How much free play in the clutch pedal? When you get it into gear, how far do you have to let the clutch pedal up before you feel the clutch grab?
Does it shift into first and second gear easier with the engine shut off? Is the inch in free play at the top of the pedal, ie what I mean by free play when the pedal is all the way up how far do you have to push the pedal down before the pedal pushes somewhat harder, this is the point when the throwout bearing starts pushing on the pressure plate to start releasing the clutch? Does the amount of free play vary after you pump the pedal a few times?
My pilot bearing needles were falling out when mine did that. They would jam up in there just enough to bind the clutch disk between the flywheel and the actuated pressure plate.
Check your linkage at the pedal. there is a plastic bushing there that tend to go bad. They actually make a heim joint to replace it
Well, you can buy the plastic bushing at most auto parts stores. The heim joint fix is a very good fix, but lots of work. I made a bushing from brass, snapped it onto where the worn out plastic part went. Works great and not nearly as hard to do as the heim joint. Bad part Is you need access to a lathe for about 15 minutes.
I checked that first thing and there is zero play because I put a grease zert there yrs ago.
the pedal goes down half way or alittle more before I can shift into first.
Sometimes I can get it to go into second while running, other times it acts like a brick wall. With the truck off, all gears shift fine.

where did you put a grease zerK? There is no room where the pedal assem attaches to the master cylinder rod
I added the grease zert between the pedals and fill it all the time.
but I checked the pedal with the motor running and the shifter(1st) shifts when the pedal is pretty much 3/4 way to floor. I'm thinking it's gotta be it.

Ok that's where the whole pedal assembly pivots. I am talking right where the master cylinder attaches to the clutch pedal
