They are not universal. Each of your box link lock will have a number on it. It will say S01 - S50 I believe. Find what number yours is and buy the key on ebay.
Last week I bought a Ford pivot tool box from Fairway. The keys that came with it turned the lock on a BoxLink that I had to remove to install the tool box. I didn't pay any attention to the numbers. I was just too lazy to get out of the truck bed and get the BoxLink key out of the cab so I tried the tool box key because it was right in my hand.

Are you referring to the tie down? I didn't remove mine for my pivot box.
But yes, get the code off the tie down and buy the key off ebay. I had to do that with mine.
Is there any particular reason they figured they better lock these tie downs on to the truck bed? They don't appear to made from precious metal and i'm not sure they could be used on anything but a Ford truck bed!
My 2019 F-450 came with BoxLink shown under Options on the Window Sticker and I had a bag full of brackets, etc. Didn't notice if there were any keys in the bag - never opened it, just threw it under the back seat! I guess I should check instead of waiting until the first time that I might need it, although I carry a slide-in truck camper the majority of the time so...
The box link has separate keys? Dealer installed my box link cleats during their prep before I even took possession, and I don't remember getting any extra keys with the truck, just my 2 keyless fobs. I had always assumed they just unlocked with the truck's key in the fob like my Ramboxes did on my 1/2 ton. Good thing I've never needed to remove the cleats! I'm going to have to dig through the various cubbies in the truck to see if they're tucked somewhere I don't know about. Or, go back to the dealer (2 years later) to see if they have them there.

Yes. I had to remove it. I couldn't get the tie down to fit once I had the bracket for the pivot box bolted in. No big deal, haven't really used that tie down anyway.
I don't know if having a drop in plastic liner makes a difference or not. I do know that I had to trim it for everything to work properly.

The BoxLinks & keys were shrink wrapped to cardboard and under the rear seat in both my 2017 and 2019.

Yeah, I never saw the cardboard or shrink wrap. My dealer unwrapped my cleats and installed them in the bed before I ever picked my truck up. So, hopefully, they put the keys somewhere and didn't just throw them out with the packaging.
