I have a 2005 limited and the ceiling display that should show mileage and compass isn't working (never worked for second owner, I am the third owner). I'd like to try and fix it. Anyone have instructions on how to pop the thing out without damaging it?
Have you read the Tech Folder thread on this repair? I think it should walk you right through the entire process.
Good luck and be sure to report your results!
If you have used a soldering iron before, sometimes you can just heat up the solder around the resistors on the circuit board to fix a cold solder joint. If not, farm it out to someone who knows as you can mess things up.

I also have a 2005 and repaired my non-working display with help from the threads in the tech folder. Not difficult but your soldering skills are the key. There are several YouTube videos on subject that are worth watching before you jump in. One thing not to forget in the 05 (with a full overhead shell as in the Limited) is to first remove the screw in the sunglasses compartment and then pull the shell down from the front (first).
Ditto on the resistors. I just did mine. It was one of the 620s. It had not fallen off and there was no burnt marks. At first glance, everything looked fine but I took a pick and fiddle with each of them. Sure enough, one of them had come unsoldered on one end. Easy fix.
If your good with soldering..There Are Videos on how to ..But if ya not there are places that rebuild them..My up top always shows -40 but my Climate control shows the correct out temp? I think theres more one sensor...But ya can get them rebuilt ..2005 limited too....
Mine is reading -40 always but the Climate Cluster shows correct outside temp ?05 limited do we have 2 seperate Temp sensors ..i think theres one in on dash .one in front rad grill black sensor?
The "middle" 680 ohm resister was discolored. I heated ends with low temp soldering iron and dabbed just a bit of solder. Worked like a champ. Did the same with my daughter's Corolla digital clock years ago and fixed it. With it, I didn't even add solder. Might not need to here either. Went from extremely dim to working well.
Mine is a 2005 Limited. The shell is different. It has the map lights at the rear end of the console. There is a screw in the sun glass compartment that has to be removed first. Then you pull down the shell from the front first (there are two clips) and then you slide forward just a bit and pull down the rear (one clip as I recall but two tabs that go in slots). There are three wire harnesses that you unplug and then it is completely separated from the EX.
My console sounds similar, if not same as yours. Somebody had previously removed the console and broke the screw hole in the glasses compartment to which you refer. Guess they missed it. I was able to remedy with a new screw and a washer to cover the hole. Guess I got lucky. I had wondered why there was a slight gap between the ceiling and console. The console in video might be different, but I suspect the circuit board and fix is the same. Alternatively, Amazon sells a replacement board for a mere $212!!

Console in the video does not have map lights. If yours does, then it is like mine. In the video, the console is two pieces, an outer shell and than another one inside holding the components. In the console with the map lights it is all one piece. Just disconnect the wire harnesses and it can be completely removed. Take in the house and work on it.
The computer module is held in place by a couple screws. Remove the module and you can put the shell back until you get the module repaired. Easiest way (if you are not handy soldering) is just to send it to the guy in Florida that has the ad in eBay (I think there is a reference somewhere in this thread, if not let me know and I will search for it).
