It looks like I have the non serviceable plug leaking on my hpop and have been doing some research on how to fix it. Reading through alot of post , it seems like many people still end up with leaks or strip threads etc. I dont know how long these pumps are usually good for but thought that being my truck has 230,000 miles on it, might be better to just replace the whole pump instead of trying to repair it. I use my truck for work so down time is critical. I only have stock sticks so dont think I need a stage 2 hpop unless that might help? Thought I would get some advice from fte, repair or replace? If replace, what would be a good hpop to go with?
Jason, when/if mine goes, I’ll be replacing it, being an E99 I’ll also upgrade it. Situations like this, I see what a stock XYZ costs then compare it to the cost of an Aftermarket Upgrade will cost. Then factor in the actual benefits, if the rewards justify the additional cost I’ll spend the extra money.
Thanks John , I think I am leaning toward just going ahead and replacing the hpop , that way I am done with it and won't have to worry about more downtime in the future as far as the hpop goes. Looking at CNC fabrication remanufactured pump or for just a little more money I can get a brand new OEM Bosch pump. The Bosch is looking pretty good as of right now but open to suggestions
My choices for a HPOP would be CNC Fabrication Stage 1 or Bosch.
New has advantages, but so does a re-manufactured pump from a reputable shop like CNC. First world problems are a bitch sometimes...
We look forward to your decision and thoughts on whichever you end up installing.
Thanks sous, what would be a advantage for a reman other than a little cheaper? I'm having a hard time talking myself out of a Bosch and wasn't sure if I was missing something
Soooo... the Adrenaline and Stealth pumps are sliding down to the rank of "not necessarily recommended"?
actually clay from riff raff recommended the adrenaline pump today and he doesn't even sell them. The t500 I think you have to send it in and wait for them to rebuild your pump but not 100% on that. I was not considering the adrenaline because I have stock sticks but clay said that it would help some so maybe leaning in that direction , unfortunatly it's much more expensive than the bosch though
I’ve also replaced the non-serviceable plug on several pumps. If your pump is otherwise healthy, I would absolutely do that first if current budget does not allow an ‘upgrade’.
My go to is the CNC Fab Stage 1 with their HPO lines (skip the hpx). I have installed at least a dozen of them now and no issues yet.
The Adrenaline has a long reputation of being a really good option.
This CNC Stage 2 HPOP just went in my truck a couple weeks ago. You can see the new HPO lines with JIC fittings instead of the factory QD fittings.
I was hoping that you would chime in Sky ski , I noticed on another thread that you said you like to use CNC Fab pumps. Just wanted to see what your take was on installing a CNC Fab stage 2 even though I have stock sticks. Being that I tow a lot with my truck clay told me that the stage 2 would probably help me out some. Then again some others say not to bother and just put in a stage 1 .Is there any pros or cons to installing a stage 2? Also was wondering if you have any tips or tricks for removing and installing a hpop, or is it pretty straightforward? Thanks for any info
Most of my projects end up being harder than they should be. However, my HPOP R&R and fuel bowl reseal were very straight forward. If you go that route, just make sure you have all the o-rings and gaskets on hand.
