1952 Ford F

Hi, I have a 1952 F series truck. The identification number is F3R2HM24952. I am told it is an F1 but The truck appears to have a longer chassis than a typical F1. I’m thinking it is a 3/4 ton truck, can someone please clarify.

That is an F3 (1 ton) pickup. Here's a chart to help you decode the VIN:

My truck

This is my truck as I pulled it from the paddock. The ID on the Cert of title date 1996 says it’s a F3R2HM the ID tag in the glove box says F2D2CH. I suspect the glove box plate is not original as the number ends in M suggesting the truck is green. This truck is red from new. However the R2 suggests it is a V8, there is nothing to indicate it had a V8 badge on the front. It currently has a OHC 6 in it which was an option in 52. I’m hoping you guys can shed further light.

There is another place the S# is stamped, on my truck it is under the hood, on top of the passenger side frame rail near the motor mount...

The glove box tag on mine says it's supposed to be red, but has always been green - so they can be in error. Looks like it's got a full-floating rear axle, so likely is an F2 or F3 (3/4 ton or HD 3/4 ton). Check the RH frame rail at the front near the inner fender panel for the stamped s/n which is supposed to read the same as shown on your title and your glove box tag. The hood looks like it's from a '51. On a '52 with the 215 CID 6 cylinder (Code=D), the I-6 emblem was at front of the hood. So, your says "FORD" on it twice, but has no engine ID at all.. - Bob

There is no color information found in the serial number. The number breaks down the series, F2 or 3, the engine code, R or D, the year, 2 = 1952, and the assembly plant. The breakdown is in the chart above. Your title says Highland Park, MI, and the tag says Chicago. Your hood is from a 51, but everything else says 1952. The next step would be to find the frame stamping as suggested by the others. That's the only legal number, and the one that's harder to fake. Selling old cars and trucks with the wrong title is a very old scam.

The hood insert in the front of the hood appears to be from a 1951 truck, if so, that would put the V8 emblem where the FORD letters are on the upper valance. The V8 emblem for the 52 model would be in the hood insert and the FORD letters on your truck are in the correct place. Just a guess.
