I have a freshly build 289 and was wondering if the PSI on the cylinders of 60-100 PSI is enough to cause a problem. If so how is it fixed? I tried a little oil in the cylinders and that gave me the max presser of 60-100 PSI. Before the oil some cylinders had hardly any PSI I mean about 10-15psi.
Are the rings file fit or standard rings? Were they checked anyway? Sometimes the standard sets can be gapped way too much from the factory. If they were file fit, what were they gapped to?
New pistons or reused originals?
If new, are they the correct size for the bore? I've seen and heard of accidently using a .010 over piston in a .030 over bore.
Also could have been honed too much for proper fit.
Everyone offered great questions and/or solutions but not an answer to your question. Your compression is very very bad for a fresh rebuild. Have any of the suggestions helped out? Later
No nothing is helping i still haven’t taken the block back out of the car yet to check the rings. The motor did start once and ran for about 30min total then I drove it the next day for about one block. Then it died and hasn’t started since would Excessive fuel in the cylinders keep the compression down. I also fount a lot of fuel in the oil. Which I have changed. And I put oil in each of the cylinders. I tried to start it again it tried to start twice. Or I mean that one or two of the cylinders fired then nothing again just turning over and over. It has a new carb on it and I think maybe it’s feeding to much fuel to the motor. And washing out the cylinders.
I'd have to go back and look at the valve timing. Your rings are probably not seated yet and will leak some but, even with the ring problem, you should be able to get well over 100psi of compression.
