I’ve got a 2WD 1985 F250 IDI 6.9 with twin I-beam front suspension and a good body.
i just picked up a rusty POS ‘95 F250 with a Powerstroke 7.3 and 4WD, with a Dana 50 Twin Traction Beam front axle. I plan to swap the motor, trans, and front axle over to the ‘85. Does anyone know from past experience if the pivot brackets on the twin I-beam are the same as the TTB? Or do I need to swap those over also?
They are not the same and the bolts holes aren’t there to put the TTB into a TIB crossmember, a f150 TTB will bolt in though into a F250 TIB though I’m not sure if that’s a good idea or not.
Drat. I haven’t looked yet, but I assume the crossmember is not a bolt in deal.
Well, I was going to go 4WD just because it was a gimme with the motor being what I really wanted. I guess I’ll leave it 2WD for now and if I decide to go 4WD I’ll go straight to a Dana 60 straight axle.
I appreciate the help! I’d use the TTB if it were a bolt in, I don’t think that I’m going to do a lot of fab work to install an axle that no one has much good to say about. I’ll save that for a Dana 60.
