front disc conversion question

Guys,
I read in a previous post, that converting to disc brakes on the front adds about 1.5 inches to the width of the front end. Is this true?. Maybe I misread the post.

I (and some other owners) are thinking of using the 73-79 spindles to convert to discs on the front of our 69-74 E-100/200 vans, but can't find much info on the truck spindles. There's not many van owners in the 73-79 truck and van forum, so I thought it would better to post this here.

Any help would be appreciated.

There is a Tech article here on the site dealing with your conversion. Go read that and you are on your way.
I followed the article pertaining to trucks to do mine and it has turned out to be one of the best things that I have converted on my truck.
I would think that a lot if not all the parts are same on the trucks and vans.
Good Luck!

I read the article a little while ago, but didn't see anything about the donor spindles making the front end wider. Anyway, yes, there are a few things that are similar on the vans. I got a few measurements from a 78 and a 79 at a salvage yard yesterday. One thing that has me wondering is that the steering arm is about an inch shorter on the pickups. Not sure about the angles right now.

I really hope I don't have to use the power brake booster from the donor truck. Because I'm sure that the one's I saw won't fit under my hood.

The booster and M/C from the year of van that you are upgrading to should do the trick I would think.
That is how it's done on the trucks. Ask at the bone yards. They were asking me if I was doing the conversion when I asked for the certain parts I wanted back when I did it. They all seem to know what we are up to when we go for this stuff at the yards. They were helpful in informing me as to what will work. For instance my proportioning valve came from a van since it's the same used on both.
I bet there are other parts as well.
As for the length difference? I can't help there. I used my existing I beams and added the spindles on to them. The only reference to 1 1/2" gain I have heard of recently was in a lowering thread and a replacement set of I beams caused that.
My setup put the rims and tires right where they used to be.
