These are low mile trucks with low yearly miles. No thanks. The safety got real intense in the last year or so and it is pretty expensive even if they don't find anything. I realize the limitations of my truck but until Manitoba follows Ontario and changes these outdated laws that put your private vehicle into a commercial class as soon as it is over 9900 lbs I am staying 250.
just out of curiosity what kinda things were they calling out?

after humboldt it doesnt surprise me

I don't really pay attention to what they find. I just see the operators with a list each time. I'm not saying that if there is something wrong it shouldn't be fixed and driven if not safe. Its just not for me. You have to decide what works for you.

Personal inspections have changed from 4500 to 6500kg for personal use... from what I see.

Took this off mto site...

Regulation 611 (Safety Inspections): Personal-Use Pickup Trucks and Trailers

Effective July 1, 2019, pickup trucks and trailers for personal use are exempt from the requirement for an annual inspection (both the inspection and displaying the yellow decal/sticker).

A pickup truck and any trailer drawn by the pickup truck qualify for the exemption provided the following criteria is met:
  • The pickup truck and trailer are being used for personal use without compensation; AND
  • The pickup truck and trailer are NOT carrying commercial tools or cargo, or equipment of a type normally used for commercial purposes.
For the exemption to apply, the pickup truck must:
  • Have a manufacturer’s Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 6,500 kg or less AND
  • Be fitted with either the original, unmodified box that was installed by the manufacturer or an unmodified replacement box that duplicates the one originally installed by the manufacturer.
