1977 F250 Spring Question

Just bought a 1977 F250. I need the hanger front side of the springs for the rear end. I’m having a hard time finding them. I found some on Bronco graveyard for a 80-96 F-150 that seem they might work however it says for 3” wide springs. When I measure the eyelet on mine it seems closer to 2.5? Was there different eyelet lengths on these? 1977 F250 400 C6 Divorced tcase.

Quick question. The ad says 80-96, is there another part listed?

No. What I’m wondering is will the 80-96 hanger work? I’ve check LMC, DC, local parts stores and Bronco Graveyard and nobody list the hangers for a 77 but the ones for 80-96 look close and I was told elsewhere they would work however they say for 3” wide springs and mine are 2.5” I believe, just trying to find some hangers that will work on this.

https://www.autoandtrucksprings.com/...pring-bta57bw/ Here you go. I ordered these for my 75 F250 4X4 and they worked great. Great guys to work with too. Only place I could find that had them.

A few other points I forgot to mention are, your springs should be 2 1/4" wide and ATS is on the vendor list for FTE.

Yep, since you have a "Highboy" (early '77) F250 you have the narrower frame width (rear under-bed area only), the narrower rear springs (73 and later F150's and '77 1/2 and later 250's used 3" wide springs) and lots of other variations on the F250 theme.
About the only thing your truck has in common with other later model F250's is that your does still use the 400 engine, whereas the '76 back to whenever Highboys used the 360.

Different gas tanks, different front differentials, different grilles, steering systems and lots of other small stuff is different on yours. But it's a cool truck nevertheless.
Got a very nice looking rig there. Looks super nice outside, but from the one pic it looks like the chassis and underneath is pretty rough and needs some TLC.

Good luck.

Paul

Just a question but if your spring hanger is that bad how is your upper shock mount?

I am curious about the shock mount as well. Funny thing that happened to me is my left rear upper shock mount had rot and broke. The frame and all other attachments were still solid and not rusted.

Good call on that, mine were rotten completely through. I pulled a rust free set off a 73 F100, apparently they are the same on all years/models. . Drill a bigger hole in the bottom so mud and water can get out.

Be prepared to patch that frame when you remove the spring perch. It looks exactly as Mine did, and it was paper thin when I got done cleaning up the rivet holes and grinding away the rust. Easy fix, but sucks nonetheless. Where are you located? Super nice truck, with a healthy dose of Northeast looking rust underneath.

Air hammer made quick work of the rivets. Once I got the hanger off your correct there is a section of the frame that is rotted. I'll take care of that while I have it off. Luckily the shock mount and rest of the frame look solid. My 79 was a complete frame off so I don't drive that in the Iowa winters so the plan with this one is to get it structurally sound and half decent looking and just drive the wheels off of it.

I've already gone through the engine and resealed everything from the oil pan to the valve covers including the heads. Also took heads to machine shop and had a valve job done. After I get the hanger and frame issue fixed then I'm going to move onto some brake upgrades and then call it a day with her....knowing me I wont stop there but that's what I'll tell myself for now lol.

So funny I just did the front and rear spring hanger last weekend, ATS is the place to go for those parts no where else has them and you can get the bolts as well. Mine was rusted out under the mounts but I was able to patch it, good as new now. The holes matched up perfectly as well.

Wow that's great Quammer! Nice work too.

Not sure if it matters as much on the trucks as it did on the Broncos, but the factory Ford shackles are supposed to be oriented with the open face to the rear. Away from the spring basically.
Yours looks to be the other way, but I could be looking at it wrong too. Probably never feel the difference on the street, but when trying to flex the springs the shackle will run into interference with the hanger.

This is just assuming they did the same for the 100/150/250 setups as they did for the Broncos of course.
Again, great job on the frame fix. Invisible!

Hey thanks! It was a lot of fun, I had a 1970 highboy 4x4 when I was in high school and I am just getting back into these trucks. It is all about having a well fitted patch for a nice finish.
Thanks for the advice I did not notice that, I will flip them around easy to do. Any thoughts on should the bolt head for the spring face the frame or have the nut face the frame? I see advantages for both ways and not sure what the stock set up was as the bushings have been changed...
