Many trailer service businesses will bend and thread U-bolts to your specs. The one near me also sells an assortment of U-bolts that did not meet the drawing specs for other jobs, and they are only $5 each. As for the spacers, I am going to use appropriate lengths of steel tubing or even pipe for those.
Boy, I’m happy with this bed. The passenger side has a slight bend, but the driver’s side is straight. They made a sling out of old seatbelts to lift it on my trailer.

Threaded rod and a couple of plates work as good as U bolts to tie the bed down. Just remember that unless you build the stringers with well seasoned wood, the bolts will need to be tightened when the wood dries.
